A thread for general questions that probably don't need their own topic.

If I had a character that uses a walking stick, but also wanted to have a shield out, would I still need RP for monkey grip training, or no? I realize the debuffs would still be there, but like... do they really need 'training' to do that?

It's been ruled that you can't get monkey grip to do that kind of thing. My recommendation is just using one of the mage staffs or requesting one that can be used by anyone. They have several wood-look models.

I've always disliked how mage staves have no weapon focus feats. Would it be possible to fix that for EE?

I think it could be, but it would be a significant amount of work for a very niche use. Most mages that go for a weapon feat aren't going to use a magical staff, they're going to use an actual weapon. Even some sort of gish that wants to go the staff route would probably use a quarterstaff/monk combo, I'd think.

Take weapon focus Club and roleplay it as a wizardly scepter. Or the same with sickle, mace, or morningstar if you go sorcerer. All are equal or better to a magical staff mechanically, with no additional feats.

Okay, I've heard this from someone, as well as seen it on the forums now.

Are rebuilds for EVERY character from 1.69 mandatory now? I wasn't there for the beginning snafu in the entry room, so I don't know all the details. The only thing I heard before that was that for affected subraces they were mandatory.

Edit: Apparently I can't read. Question answered.

I swear, I'm not trying to be annoying.

If we need to rebuild a DD char (which I've read has some bugs going on with them, as well as a new spread of abilities, which is posted somewhere, but I'm clearly to dumb to find it) do I want to hold off on that until the bugs are sorted, or go on ahead with it?

What's the pvp status of cliffside as opposed to the rest of Demonreach now that there are guards aligned to a specific faction? Also are players allowed to attack the NPCs there without a dm?

Right, I meant more with regards to the fact that the Tarkuulian remnant has actual troops stationed in demonreach now - its also worth asking if they were set to plot invulnerable or not like a lot of NPCs get

Dragon disciple stat changes should all be in. The only missing feature is the ability to change your breath weapon which can be fixed later without a rebuild

Cool, is there a place where I can find this new spread? I think my build before banked on the old one, so I need to see if I need to change things before rebuilding.

Concealment doesn't stack, but overrides. At Conceal 50 you'll essentially have constant Empty Body. But until then, you'll still get a little more concealment by using it.

When applying for a character if it is decided later on to change the classes desired is it necessary to contact a DM about it?

Example: I request to be High King Bob with projected level of 20 Awesome 10 Great then switch it to something else.

If you mean a rebuild, then it generally depends on how much you are changing.

Not a rebuild just leveling up for the first time. In such requests for races, restricted classes, approved backgrounds there is the line for proposed build.

After playing a different build may come into mind while leveling up.

Re: General Questions

Post by Dark Immolation »

You mean if you request a character and it gets approved with one proposed build and you end up wanting to take another route? I'd run it by the DMs anyway, but it might not require a formal request. Like switching out one martial class for another seems alright, but if you requested them with the idea they'd be a cleric and then want to build them as a wizard it might require checking in again.

There's a reason why it's called a "proposed" build though. If RP leads the character to develop into something else, that's fine. They just don't want people getting a PC approved under a set of assumptions, then turning around and completely disregarding them.

A question I've been thinking of since last night:

With the new 'Craft Magical Arms' feat now out, why is the mythal crafting system even a thing? When someone can do and ENTIRE weapon's worth of work in maybe 1/6th of the time. Maybe not even that.

I mean it still works on armor, I guess. But most of the point of the mythal system is... kinda moot now, the way I see it.

It stacks. You can mythal a weapon and then use the feat in addition to that (Or it was the other way around)

But like... why? When people can just do a whole job's work in one feat, why bother making the mythal system do anything?

Because the craft feat DOESN'T do the whole mythal system, and as said before, the two work in tandem, you can stack mythal and job system enchantments on a weapon to make it unbelievably strong.

The reason it's really cool to take the craft feat as a caster is because you can charge people fat stacks of cash to make them super high-end custom weapons for their end game.

For example:
Adamantine gives you the following
+3 Enhancement
1d8 Elemental Damage
Keen

Now normally that's three properties and you could mythal an extra one on. But! What you could do instead is prior to using craft magic item you could actually have the weapon mythalled to... for example:
+5 Attack Bonus
+4 Enchantment Bonus
Massive Criticals: 1d8
Vampiric Regeneration: +2

The resulting mythalled weapon would be able to be enchanted, and thereafter look like this:
+5 Attack Bonus
+4 Enchantment Bonus
1d8 Elemental Damage
Keen
1d8 Massive Critical
Vampiric Regeneration: +2

It doesn't work on anything but melee weapons at this time, but that's on the list of things to tweak with the feat.

Hopefully it works on bows eventually so we can make them somewhat more F U N. After all, melee shouldn't be the only ones who have cool new mechanics.

How does the 'search area for something interesting' function work for the Scholar job? I know you just click on the ground, and select the option, but what I mean is, what are the conditions for that to be an option at all? I've tried using it in many different places and there seems to be no pattern. I've done it in areas where monsters spawn, and it seems you can do it 1/area sort of thing, but yesterday, I went all over the place on many different maps, and only got a 'nothing' choice when I used my job log.

You probably just missed seeing it. It comes up in the combat log.

And there will of course be a thorough write-up and explanation of all the jobs and how they work. It just takes a lot more time to do all the documentation in a user-friendly web-page. Please just be patient about that.

Are Feytouched who choose to ritualise their bloodline bound to that Fey's alignment only or can it be within one alignment step? (Eg a NE fey type, could.the feytouched be TN if they wish to awaken their blood?)

What qualities manifested would you categorise for a start of a ritualisation? I'm happy for an actual alignment shift as that RP progresses but curious what to expect from a "light" bloodline activation :)
