The Violet Contagion

Post by Dicey13 »

*Those that start to frequent Amia Forest in the coming days would start to notice something about the local wildlife. The animals would appear sickly and malnourished, walking the forest and acting very rabid to any that approached them. Even the more pleasant of animals, like the rabbit or a deer were unapproachable. Deeper in the forest the animals were less frequent as there were many dead animals decorating the forest floor. The spiders seemed not phased by whatever was plaguing the animals however. Even reports of a Roadwarden falling ill came in and sadly passed only days later. How or what killed the him are still uncertain as even the Salandran are baffled as to what is causing this sickness. One thing was for certain something was making the local wildlife sick and others sick as well.*

The Shrine of EIlistraee as it was bordering the forest and much of the Shrines meat came from hunting there may have noticed the strange behavior and if so Erelkacha would inform the high priestess and ask Shrine Citizens to stick to fishing or ask a priestess to cast cure disease and then puriify food and water on even healthy looking game animals if they -must- eat them. Though she would ask and note that it would be prefered that any dangerous or infected ones brought down by hunters or that wander into the Shrine from the forests edge kindly be killed mercifully and cremated to slow this illness.
Battles can be fought with swords, words or ideas but no matter the battlefield I am not obliged to show kindness or mercy to evil by any means-Erelkacha Kenlyl

*The large moon took its usual lazy arc across the sky, taking little notice of the oddly quiet forest and the slight, charcoal grey wolf and its larger companion that stalked it in these twilight hours. It paid no mind to the beasts who picked their usual wide and wandering path through the dense unbush in their search for prey but only death. Inspecting, sniffing and likely being closer than she should the slight wolf tracked for anytjing unusual before the older animal took greater caution and bid its companion not to be so close... not that the young listen.
Tracking for scent the pair woukd search deeper into the forest, following the remains they found as their search took them far and wide, the trees at times echoing with a howl that sort a reply before the beasts circled round, back toward places more frequented. Interest was taken in the unnaturally aggressive animals... though at times such aggression was returned if needed, even to the point of mercy.

The moon by now had taken up its usually passive glance at the world below as the charcoal wolf gave way at some point to the slight female elf with charcoal hair who sort first the witch in the hut to inform those there, and then to the Grove.*

*Those attempting to heal the animals by magical means would find that although the disease would indeed be cured it only seem to be a temporary fix as the sickness would soon return to the animal only causing it to suffer all over again. Those that follow the trail would find it led to the old elven ruins deep in the forest near green lake.*

*Once it seems obvious that the animals arent healing she'll start looking for the source of the issue. Hoping to cut off the issue at the head. When she finally comes across the ruins she takes in a long moment to take in the scene and try and feel for anything unnatural or out of place. Once that's done River sniffs around the ancient ruins at first as her dire wolf form. Using the forms powerful sense of smell to find just what or where this strangeness if coming from.*

*After a short while in the Grove, the slight, female elf would leave and head back out into the forest once more taking a wide path as if to check on the forest before ending up at the ruins... though her presence now blending into the surroundings as caution sets in and she pokes around with care.*

A certain runty leopard would patrol the forest from the treetops, keeping a wary and curious watch on the wildlife. She would eventually end up at the ruins and watch from a distance creeping from limb to limb and bush to bush as she searched the area before slinking off into the shadows heading back towards the Grove.

*An armoured knight who keeps regular patrols from The Dale towards Minmirs bridge would be seen more often on the forest main road, even if he doesn't venture into the more wild areas of the forest he makes sure to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity*

*Those that would venture to the mysterious ruins would soon notice a grim sight, dead animals scattered about the forest floor along with a few Terza orcs, the source of this sickness still unknown.*

*River looks closely at how the animals and the orcs died. Claw, weapon, teeth? She would also look for any magical sources or remains as she picks through the bodies back in her hin form.*

A barricade and checkpoint is set up on the northern end of the Crystal River bridge, manned by several Kohlingen guards and at least one Salandran priest. The green portal lamp is similarly reinforced. Those seeking to enter the area are inspected for any signs of the disease spreading to the south, and escorted to the Salandran temple if needed. Those who refuse are politely but firmly turned away from entering the Duchy.

Meanwhile, Aernoud seeks out a certain priestess of Chauntea to discuss what could be done.

*Malandria takes a close eye on the development and the animals. Should she be able to calm the irritated animals, she’ll give them a throughout examination, including samples of salvia and blood. She’d also examine the teeth, furr, eyes, eye reflexes as well as the color of gum and tongue. Should she despite her best effort be unable to calm the animals enough to perform the tests she would use a mild narcotic to be able to examine and try to treat them, though only as a last resort. Lastly she would see to speak to the treants as well as some of the animals to see if they can offer any insight whatsoever when and where this started.

Any already dead animals she may find, she examines even more closely, aka going as far as cutting them open and examining the organs, stomach and intestine contents, and so on*

The resident runty leopard of the forest can be heard, as well as fleeting glimpses of her seen, as she moves around the forest. The feline moves from tree to tree and bush to bush, stopping every so often to let out a low, growling roar. While not super impressive, she didn't seem to be trying to scare off anyone. Rather it seemed she was frequenting areas other felines might be partial to and relaying a warning.

*Malandria leaves a few messages in Cetha, Bendir, Winya, the Shrine of Eilistraee, Kampo's and the Wave and Serpent to contact her in the Grove if they should feel ill themselves or have found any severely sick animals or people.*

*At times throughout the days the a hooded figure stands upon the hill close to the Elven Enclave and, for a short time, watched. Other times a slight dire wolf also takes interest in the happenings by the bridge before leaving to attend its own duty.*

*Echoing howls fill the deeper forest, though their tone and pitch seem more threatening and less friendly as if a wolf sort to warn of danger. A slight elven woman could also be seen seeking out those packs of wolves who cared little and asserted herself to be sure they remained away from certain areas.

When not wrangling wolves she paused to place crystal clear water, poured from a crystal chalise that never once ran dry, in any natural hollow or man made bowl see happened to carry... though the deer likely remained sceptical of this act!

Finally any animal found ill is swiftly taken to the Grove while those already lost are similarly removed.*

*RIver continues to explore and try and search for the source of this contagion. She remains around the ruins often, scaring away any curious animals with her dire forms. As she searches she decides to see if there are any underground paths or ways around the ruins.*

*After a few days the forest begins to come back to life once more. The animals are looking healthier and and no more reports of sick animals or trace of the disease was found. It was rumored a group from the grove had set out to the ruins by the Green Lake and had cleansed the waters of the Forest. The Forest seemed to be in better spirits and things appear to have returned to normal once more.*

Two days after the welcome news spreads beyond the forest, the checkpoints at the bridge and lamp are removed, and the guards return to their usual posts.
