Amia Glossary

Post by Jes »

Amia Glossary

Just in case you need a little help with some terms often used by players on Amia.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alt
This is a shorthand term used to refer to alternate characters - which are just other characters that you play. Sometimes combined with "Main" (see below).

ECL/CL/HD
This is how many levels your character has. ECL (Effective Character Level). CL (Character Level - sometimes also used to refer to Caster Level). HD (Hitdice).

Griefing
A griefer's actions (griefing) include kill stealing, player killing, stealing dropped items, and general harassment. Griefers may harass other players through skill abuse (for example, healing or buffing a monster which another player is trying to kill or other methods.

What is common among griefers is that they are not there to play the game others are playing; rather than playing "PvE" (Player vs. Environment) - which is what the games are typically programmed for - they play a meta-game. In this meta-game, there are no rules of engagement, and the objective is to make someone else miserable. The viewpoint of a griefer is that if he or she can ruin your play experience, or even drive you to log out in frustration, then he or she has won, and you have lost. Therefore becoming angry, verbally abusing, or even counterattacking a griefer cannot discourage them, because it proves that they have been successful in manipulating and disrupting your experience.

GS
Greater Sanctuary, a spell that is bugged in NWN and never fails to upset it's users and the people around them.

HIPS
A feat that makes it possible to Hide In Plain Sight. See Shadow Dancer.

IC
In Character (IC) refers to the world of the characters, rather than the world of the players. That is, a character talking to another character is an IC interaction, set within the IC world, while two players talking about a football game or their real lives is an Out of Character (OOC) interaction.

Main
When someone refers to their "main", they're talking about the primary player character that they play more than others. Not everyone has one, but most people tend to.

Mobs
This is usually used in reference to enemy spawns on a map when you're out hunting. The trolls or goblins, etc., are the mobs.

NPC
A non-player character or non-playable character (NPC) is a character whose actions are determined by the DM. Non-player characters populate the fictional world of the game - from the friendly innkeeper to an agitated dragon. Non-player characters (NPCs) might be allies, bystanders or competitors to the player characters (PCs).

OOC
OOC means "Out of character" and refers to things said by the author of the message, rather than by the character(s) that author is playing. Most online role-playing communities make allowances for the intrusion of "RL" (real life) by introducing standards of communication, such as insisting that all "OOC" comments are placed inside brackets, or given some prefix, for example "// Blast, the phone's ringing again, I'll go and pull it out of the wall."

PC
A player character or playable character (PC) is a fictional character in a game who is controlled or controllable by the player.

PK
Player killing, or PK'ing, is non-consensual and usually random. An aggressor attacks an opponent without agreement to any set of rules of engagement or combat. This can include raiding spawns, camping towns, and any other action which constitutes griefing another party.

PvE
Many new MMORPGs advertise themselves as being Player versus environment, or PvE, meaning there is more depth to the interaction between the player and the game than merely killing monsters the traditional way, cf. Player versus monster, mainly in the form of scripted events, and that the game specifically does not focus on PvP combat.

PvP
Player versus player, or PvP, is a type of combat pitting a player's skill against another's, where the goal is ultimately the death of the opponent's player character. While this can include player killing or PKing, this term is usually used in a narrower sense. It is the antithesis of combating mobs, known as player versus monster (PvM) or player versus environment (PvE).

RDD
Red Dragon Disciple. A character class. The standard game version is much different than our variant and has been fairly popular on Amia. Sometimes comes in other variants, like BDD for Blue Dragon Disciple, since Amia allows for other dragon types than just red dragons.

SD
Shadow Dancer. A character class that is changed in Amia. See HIPS.

Toon
This is another term used to refer to a player character.

Color Tokens

Color Tokens

Here's a link to a page that will help you with color tokens!

These are great for familiar/animal companion names, when you fill out your bio at character creation, or when you want to request custom items or summon reskins. They don't work well in general conversation in-game, though.

This will help shifted forms to examine your creature weapon and/or hide.

f_voice (c, f, s, b, d, v)

f_jsname (N)
This command will allow you to change the name of any permitted item. Simply place the item on the ground in a private area and use the command while you stand next to it. (N) is the only option for this one. For example: /s f_jsname N Chickens Anonymous will change the name of the item to Chickens Anonymous. All Placeable spawner items, when changed, will reflect the name and bio changes in their names and descriptions once spawned as a PLC, too.
  • List of Permitted Items
  • Job System Placeable Spawners (Transportable Signs, Paintings, Candles, etc.)
  • Job System Books/Tomes

f_jsbio (N, B, A, ?)
This command will allow you to change the bio of any permitted item. See above for full list of permitted items. Place the item on the ground in a private place and use the N, B, or A options while standing next to it to do the following changes:
  • N = Create a (N)ew bio from scratch.
B = Create a double Line (B)reak in the bio after what is already there. (Creates an empty line for paragraph purposes, so only need to do it once.)
A = (A)dd new text after what is already there. This will not add a line break. This will not add a space, either, unless you start your added text with one.
    ? = View instructions.
