In order to ensure that the DM Team can reply to your requests and needs with regard to NPC interaction, we have decided to put a new guideline in place:

When you need to interact with an NPC or a group of NPCs in any given location, please send a PM first here on the forums. For areas that have a DM assignment, you can send the PM directly to them (If there are two DMs listed, send it to both of them). For "free areas" that have no specific DM assigned, please send a PM to the Dungeon Master group. This ensures that a DM will be able to get to you as soon as possible with the information or interaction needed. Not all things need to have in-person DM oversight and can be handled faster with a quick answer to IC correspondence. This will make things run smoother!

You can send a group PM by following these steps:
  1. Go to your Inbox.
  2. Click "New PM" at the top of your PM list.
  3. There are two boxes at the top to Add Recipients (on the left) or Add Groups (on the right). Search the Add Groups box for the red Dungeon Master group and select it by clicking on it.
  4. Click the "Add" button that's under the Add Recipients box (on the left).
  5. Compose your PM and send as normal!

This information and the area assignments, including the Free Areas list, can be found here.

We had a small crisis, but we managed to get the server back up after working for several hours and much yelling uselessly at the host.

New direct connect IP is 68.0.16.94:5121 (it's in the sidebar now). Check your Vetzer Storage, as we had to switch machines again due to the error that happened. Send me a PM directly if you're missing anything from it.

Sorry again for any inconvenience!

Attention: Do not use Vetzer storage for the time being, except to take things out. I'll go through and lock the doors if I have to, but I can't tonight/this morning. Am dead.

Have a good one!

Cosmetic Mounts

Post by Jes »

Cosmetic Mounts!

  1. Cosmetic Mounts can be bought for 10 DCs. This will come in the form of a few widgets: Skinchanger + Bottled Companion/Generic Summon
  2. Cosmetic Mounts are held to high usage standards, just like Flight and Shadow Jump. If you do nonsense with them and disturb others' gameplay, you may have them taken away without refund and become ineligible to get new ones in the future. By "nonsense" we mean Shadow Jumping, Flying, or using HIPS while mounted, as well as riding around indoors without explicit DM supervision.
  3. Obtaining a normal mount requires a small request of Easy difficulty. You are allowed to say you bought a trained horse (or appropriate mount for the location used), if you actually pay a gold fee of at least 50,000 gp. If it is an animal that isn't usually a normal trained mount (such as the exotic mounts listed below), we expect a little more RP for your request. Such RP should include how you acquired it and how you trained it and practiced riding it. Exotic mount requests will fall under the Medium difficulty of requests.
  4. Whether an exotic (see list below) mount is granted is decided on a case-by-case basis, dependent on RP. If it doesn't make sense or alignments affect it (such as with celestial chargers or nightmares), it may be denied.
  5. If you have no ranks in Ride and/or Animal Empathy, the DM Team reserves the right in plots or otherwise to say you are dismounted in tricky situations!
Normal MountsHere is a list of available "Normal" mounts.
  1. Horse (Can be bought in most surface settlements)
  2. Camel (Can be bought in desert areas like Khem)
  3. Riding Lizard (Can be bought in underground/cave settlements, like the UD)

Exotic MountsHere is a list of available "Exotic" mounts. These require a bit of research and more RP than a Normal mount.
  1. Nightmare
  2. Unicorn
  3. Celestial Charger
  4. Qilin (or Ki-rin)

Unfortunately, the pegasus options are not able to be mounted. The way they are set up, they don't work with our mount system. The wings setting just transfers to the rider.

The Widgets

The Skinchanger is meant to set your new appearance, tail, and phenotype so that you can ride your new mount! The Bottled Companion (or generic summon) is included so you can have the animal there for RP when you're not riding it. Abuse or misuse of these widgets in-game, such as riding around in a house or underwater or using HIPS/SJ/Flight with it, may lead to these widgets being taken away.

"Cosmetic"?

These mounts have absolutely zero effect on your mechanical gameplay. They are purely cosmetic.

Cavalry - Custom Mounts

Cavalry characters get one free bottled companion OR generic summon of their mount choice. If you don't want one of the generic mounts available on the Cavalry Mount widget already, you can get a custom mount of the "normal" mount options of your choice (at the delivering DM's discretion - it should fit the character).

General Guideline for Racial Alternatives to Horses:
  • Dwarves - Riding lizard (Not Peylio). Boar. Polar Bear.
  • Elves - Deer. Elk.
  • Gnomes/Halflings - Any goat.
  • Half-Elf - Any camel. Deer. Elk.
  • Half-Orc - Boar. Riding Wolf.
  • Humans - Any camel.
  • Drow - Riding lizard (Not Peylio).
  • Other Monsters - Riding lizard (Not Peylio). Boar. Riding Wolf.

General Guideline for Class Combination Alternatives to Horses:
  • Pale Master - Any undead horse.
  • Blackguard - Any Nightmare.

If you choose a custom normal mount, that will be the one we make into your free BC/GS. Those Cavalry character races/classes that get special options (as listed above) can also choose that for their BC/GS. For example, a goblin can ask for a worg BC or GS.

This does not require a request and can just be asked for in-game - and does not cost DCs or count toward freebies.

If you want your Cavalry character to use one of the exotic mounts, linked above, then those still require a request, suitable RP, and the 5 DC cost for the BC/GS.

Effective immediately, the Adult RP rules have been completely changed.

Adult RP is no longer allowed in Tells. You can no longer participate in this RP on Amia in any channel, period. This change comes because the DM Team feels strongly that the experimental relaxation of this rule for the launch of EE has been detrimental to the server. We are not a social server and we do not want our players to treat it like one. It has gotten out of hand and we have had to address situations that have made members of the Team uncomfortable.

Take all sexual RP off the server to Discord or wherever else you fancy. Amia is not the place for it.

Please read the new Adult RP rules thoroughly. Much of it has changed, including the unpleasant need to add more forbidden topics because people are gross and we can't just trust common sense. :banghead:

The Amia Test Server is now open to the public. You can go in there and test your builds and such. You'll see an XP dragon and an extra merchant with some +5 stuff in the big room by Hil'rash in the Wave & Serpent.

Hello!

Today's hak update was very big. We have officially incorporated all of Project Q's monsters (not all of the skins are in the list yet, but I will add them gradually). Project Q's assets come in easy-to-install modules, but that does not mean that it is a seamless merge. We did have a few things that broke when I added Project Q creature assets. Four of our previous models are now unable to be used. It was amazing that we had such few issues, though! I tried for many hours to fix it, but I was not successful. I had to choose between these four skins and the roughly 300 new skins. And the selection of what broke really makes no sense to me, either. Here are the skins that no longer work:

917 Yeti
999 Ferret
1126 Vege, Thorny Rider T
1526 "Undead Disgusting Ostrich"

See, it makes no sense. If the ferret broke, why didn't the rabbit or the squirrel or the badger? The yeti broke, but the rest of the giants are fine? Only one of the three Vege Riders broke?! Ugh. Anyway, If anyone has a summon reskin or skinchanger that uses these broken skins, you can get it a free reskin to something else. The Ferret annoys me the most, but at least we have a squirrel and some rats that can represent what it is a bit.

Some other skins have been reskinned to something else, also. You will notice them throughout the module. Some are pretty cool!

And here are the new assets! (We have new hat VFX!) 62 new mount tails are orange. 6 new actual humanoid tails are pink.

I just wanted to make an announcement that the settlement index (so far) for which DM is overseeing which area is officially updated here.

Please send messages to the listed DM if you want to do things in a given location! If the area you want isn't listed, send the PM to the Dungeon Master group so someone who is able to can get back with you. (Instructions on how to do that are also in the linked post.)

Deity Rings

The team would like to share some information about the deity rings, since there has been some question about them.
  1. The new rings are dropping properly now! Sorry about the delay in that!
  2. The rings are IC items. They are regular magical items created by normal people. There is no actual divine link to them. This is also shown by the lack of race/alignment restrictions on them now. Any character with enough Lore to identify it would be able to tell this.
  3. You may ask a DM to exchange old deity rings for new ones, but limit it to just a few (3 tops). Don't make the DM go through and get fifty of them for your collection. That's not very respectful of DM time. (Note: This is not mandatory. This is just a little bonus to you since many of the new set are better than their old counterpart. You can keep the old ones if you want, but if you get a new one from a DM for free, you have to turn in the old version. Otherwise, just go hunting for them and you'll eventually get the ones you want!)
  4. The old deity rings and new deity rings are still IC'ly two separate things. The one you have that's exchanged for a new one, you can feel free to say you exchanged it at an appropriate vendor or that you found a new and better one and you didn't need the old one anymore, but they do not just magically become that as if enhanced by the deity themself. Again, there is no actual divine link. They are just crafted items made by normal crafters. Being able to exchange a few is purely for convenience since the new set is generally better than the old.

If you have other questions, please ask in the Lore topic about this.

Automated DC System

Our Automated DC System is now live. The system will give you one DC on login and another DC for every two hours of game play. It caps every week at 10 DCs given this way, resetting on Thursdays. This is in addition to DCs that DMs will still give out when they see you RP'ing well and participating in our stories. Thank you for playing Amia and enjoy your time here!

Alongside this release, we've raised the DC prices for mechanically beneficial DC items (such as weapons and armor). Costs for aesthetic items (like summon reskins, wings/tails/etc, or PC skin changers) have remained unchanged. Also, freebie items and free annual rebuilds will no longer be offered, as they were initially made available due to the difficulty to acquire DCs. Since there will be an influx of DCs for everyone who logs in, this should not be a problem for anyone anymore! This may still be tweaked in the future if we see there is a need for it, though.

We are also working on other automated systems, including a way to acquire your own DC items in-game, so keep an eye out!

We made some changes to the Flight feat for the sake of user friendliness, so current Flight users will see that their Flight feat is disabled. This is temporary! We will release the new version of Flight with the rest of the coming updates. Stay tuned and sorry for any inconvenience! (Update should be very nearly finished!)

The way that we are handling factions is changing. While you still have to wait 2 RL months to gain the ability to request module changes for a faction area we are adding in a milestone before that:

1 RL month Time on Request and Approval of the faction you will gain
  • Faction Discord Group
  • Forum Page for the Faction
  • Name Changes in Game

After much discussion, The Team has decided that the Fey'ri race is being removed as an option for playable races. This is due to the extensive and specific lore, and we believe they are too complicated as a player character. Further, elven tieflings fill the niche that Fey'ri did. In PnP, tieflings only exist for humans. Since we have made tieflings universal to all the base races, Fey'ri are not necessary as a playable race. Their purpose can be filled by elven-based tieflings.

Previously permitted Fey'ri shall be grandfathered in, but no further requests will be considered. Thank you and sorry for any inconvenience.

Anyone that previously paid the 10DCs for fairie fire 1/day that was a drow or druid will now get the upgraded version of 3/day. Plans later on for these widgets to be removed from druids as we add it to their spellbook level 1 spells.

I know in the past there has been some confusion and delay with PM messages to the DM Team. To remove a lot of these issues please when you send a PM to any member of the DM Team to also tag the whole DM Team group. This way if a situation comes up it will be in all of our folders and we can ensure it is followed up with and handled. If you send a discord message to someone as well with no reply after a few days please use the forums and send a PM.

If possible when you are sending PM in the subject to help with organizational reasoning please begin the subject with a identification markings.

Example:
[IC-Letter to King Richard]
[OOC-Request-Skinchange-TheRogue-Roland]
[OOC-Recommendation-Shadowdancer]

Just something that identifies it being ic or ooc and than at a glance a idea of what attention is needed.

Thank you all!

Shadow Dancer Cooldown Issue!

If you have a ShadowDancer, please make sure that the HIPS Cooldown has ended before you log from the server!

If you do log while it is still active, you get stuck in the cooldown if you log back on until the next reset. This means you cannot go into stealth anymore.

Do not panic though, should it happen by accident or due to you crashing, the next server reset will fix it.

But due to our reset system taking 8 hrs in the worst case you will try to avoid it (in the times you have a say over the matter)

We will look into a mechanical fix, but until then just try to keep yourself aware to make sure you wait those extra 5-6 seconds before you log!

Cooldown Issue!
It seems this is an issue with all cool downs right now. So divine wrath and such can break too.

As said we will look into it. Until then try to avoid logging during active cooldown if at all possible.

Policy Change:

With regards to DC Gear Requests, you are now permitted to request an item and say that it was made by an appropriate NPC at the cost of 500,000 gold. These will be Easy requests and require only two DMs to sign off on them.

The request has to be written in an IC fashion such as a letter of request to the NPC. At this time, in order to skip needing further RP for your request, you must choose from our DC item catalogue found here.

In the request for the item to be made you need to inform the NPC what you want and any name or engravings you wish to be included in the design.

We are currently working on a point-buy item power system which will replace the catalogue soon, so keep an eye out.

This policy is being put in place because an in-game method of acquiring DC gear is also in the works, and will use the point-buy system mentioned above. Once that system goes into effect, this request policy will no longer be needed.

The following template must be used for item requests of this less restricting type - You don't have to leave the parentheses in; they just explain that spot:
  • Login:
    Character Name:
    Item Name:
    Item Description:
    Item Powers:
Item Appearance: (If you want to specify)
NPC: (Whoever you're requesting the item from)
Roleplay: (The letter you're giving them, requesting the item.)

    Here's an example.
If you want to make your DC items yourself or acquire them from some other especially unique situation (such as quests or the like, as some players enjoy such RP), then that is still possible if you want to do that route instead.

Suggested Appropriate NPCs:
[Disclaimer not all npcs are able to craft high tier magic items. Rather than listing hundreds of npcs, please use common sense. If they are a merchant and sell magic wares they are fine, if they are a beggar on the street they can't.]

Some examples, not exhaustive:
Vaelyn in Winya
Thraldurin in Winya
Hil'rash in the Wave & Serpent
Belorfin in Endir's Point
Aina in Obsidian Isle
Elrienia in the Shrine
Muck Magus in the Dale

Due to an oversight during the creation of Warlock, we will be making a change which will affect some existing characters:

Warlock and Pale Master will no longer be a valid combination. Warlock invocations are not spells, and the different tiers of invocations are not actual spell levels - they're just different types of various strengths. Thus any class with a spellcasting requirement or which requires a certain number of spell levels are not able to be unlocked by warlock. This includes Pale Master and was already correctly blocked for Arcane Archer.

The allowance of this combination was done in error and characters who have this combination must be rebuilt to maintain server lore. These rebuilds will be free, as with any larger scale decision which affects full builds.

This will be mechanically implemented soon, as well.

Please reach out to a member of the Staff if you have any questions.

Slavery rule (removed)
After a recent discussion about our slavery rule on amia, we felt it was time for reviewing said rule.

As of now the Amia slave rule is removed, and players are free to go about it as they wish.

We would like to point out however that it also means there is no rule keeping a slave your slave and so now fully falls under player consent, and the only restrictions are what you agree with each other. If the slave decides to bug out that is their right aswell. This also means that "hunting them down" or "killing your slave" falls under normal pvp rules.

on a side note, we saw some notions on capturing people for slaves etc, this also is only on consent of both parties of course. And note although you are allowed to capture a player for 24 hours, the player is not obligated to actually be present, and can simply elect to not log in for said 24 hours (and if they are rp must be facilitated or they can simply be considered released/escaped, within reason of course).

if any more questions please use the discord announcement-discussion thread or reach out to a team member.

Go have a look at this post!

DC Items have been revamped into a point-buy system, with DC costs fully explained therein. Read everything carefully, as there's a lot that's changed.

For the better, I'd say!

I am still updating various other posts that refer to DC items or that need to have DC costs adjusted (like the epic loot pricing), so give me a little bit to finish those. But this is the important one and I didn't wanna make you wait!

Related to the above system announcement, I wanted to also announce the following:

DC Items that were purchased from the Djinn can also be upgraded to fit the new point-buy system, but they are IC'ly warded to prevent tampering. As such, any updates to these items can be done by writing a little story that your character sent their item to the Djinn to enhance for them. He'll do it and send it back. There will be no gold cost for Djinn updates, as he will do it just to make sure his previous honorable customer is happy. (You do still need to pay the DC difference of 3 DCs per point you make up.) Such Djinn-DC-Item-Update requests will be [E]asy requests.

Other DC items that were not purchased from the Djinn can also be upgraded, but if you use an NPC to do it for you to bypass the RP requirement, you may need to pay them gold for the service if they would want it. The DMs will let you know if that's the case, as every NPC is different. Normal NPC DC Item Upgrade requests will be also [E]asy requests.

If you want to do your own magical enchanting/upgrading to non-Djinn DC Items, then you can forego any potential gold fee (unless you're paying another player character who's doing it) and the request will be a [M]edium request as normal to verify the magical crafting RP.

Epic loot drops (or epic loot items purchased with DCs) and other items that are not specifically DC Items cannot be upgraded with the point-buy system. You can, however, request only what those items would be able be made into with the in-game mythal system. So you can request epic skill gloves with +3 STR added to them, for instance (sparing you one flawless mythal).

Rule Change

There has been a change to the character creation rules found here. Please see the snippets that have added/changed (some of this was previously only written in the Special Characters information thread). Modifications are colored:

-----------------------------------------

Special Characters

On Amia, you may make a Special Character Request in order to play a character that has a race that is not freely playable. The above guidelines for allowed special races are not all-inclusive, but give a good idea of what you may expect. If you wish to make a special character request, post in this forum.

Rules & Guidelines
  • Your special character will not have any special powers, be they racial or class-based, beyond what is normally allowed of pnp spells on Amia. Telepathy is not permitted between players in any way. (Pseudodragons and other summons your character may have which normally would only communicate telepathically can communicate normally through speech on Amia.)
  • If it is not a scripted race in our system (like the request-only Half-Dragon or Avariel are scripted), then the race will not be scripted with special stats, abilities, spells, etc (as in, it won't be like the supported races in our Race System). It will NOT have any increased ability modifiers, or skills, or anything along those lines. It will in fact have nothing other than the special bonuses granted by the base NWN race you choose to use, such as elf, or human. You can request additional powers and abilities (like skin changers or spell widgets or properties on items), but these will cost DCs and will be applied to the balance of any items in question as normal.
  • The character should not be created until after you are officially approved to play it. If it is created in advance, STOP playing it.
  • Approval is based on 3 main factors:
    1. The appropriateness of the request/race, as determined by the DM Team.
    2. The player who is making the request. This is to say, your history on the server and the quality of your roleplay is strongly considered - more so for the more Complicated requests.
    3. The quality of the submission, meaning how well thought out the character is, how much knowledge the player seems to have regarding the traits of the race/request, and how well you flesh out for us the history, personality, and details of the request.
  • Requests should keep in mind that a special character request is NOT supposed to be about having a "cool subrace". Rather, it's about making a "cool character", for whom perhaps a special subrace is required or appropriate, to enhance that character. You are not requesting to play a Half-Devil, you are requesting to play a character, who happens to be a Half-Devil. If it seems the character is built around the race, not the race chosen to suit the character, there's a good chance the request will be denied.
  • Homebrew lore created by players has to be vetted by the DM team to ensure the lore does not conflict with any pre-existing canon. Things which definitely need to be submitted include, but are not limited to, the creation of completely new cultures, new lands, and new races. The use of existing canon cultures, lands, and races with minor tweaks or twists are usually alright.
  • Special characters which have been approved, but which do not actively portray the character/race/lore which was approved will be removed from the player if the player continues to play the character against what was approved even after DMs' formal attempts to correct them. There will only be one chance to correct per the DMs guidance after a formal warning, regardless of whether you are a new player or not, or if the character was made before or after this rule update. This is to ensure that server lore remains consistent with regard to our special race characters, and will be reserved for the most severe cases in need of lore correction.
  • The Specially requested PC must not be your first PC on Amia
  • You must be active on the server for at least two months before your request will be considered. This is so the team can get to know your playstyle.
    • Exceptions to the above two rules can be made under these qualifications: The request is thorough and shows in-depth research regarding the race, Forgotten Realms v3.5, and Amia, and has an extensive backstory that fits with our server and indicates that you have gone above and beyond to learn about the server's lore via the forums and other players.

An addition/streamlining towards the DC items

Below what you can "get" for DC Item Point-Buy system more commonly referred to as "dc items". This is in total, meaning for example 2 pnp spells/abilities on the same items will be by default refused.

Permitted on dc items is:
  • Normal item points
  • +5 Fluff Skill OR Fluff spell casting
  • 1 Additional Aesthetic Script (0 points, but adds 5 DCs)
  • 1 Additional PnP Property OR spell, requiring RP (no NPC purchase, 0 points/dc cost)
    • dc/save/cl for pnp decided in the request and marked on item, per dnd default rules for abilities/spells on items.
    • Still requires pnp permission as per normal pnp rules
    • subjected to dm discretion, not everything is possible

Emulation for Dragons and Half-Dragons

Characters that are Dragon or Half-Dragon are allowed to take Dragon Disciple for emulation of draconic abilities ONLY. This allows a draconic character to have access to draconic abilities that are not presently included with the draconic templates.

Request Handler

With the ebb and flow of DMs and availability, we wanted to give more opportunities for players to have their approved requests taken care of. As such, we're introducing a new internal role within Amia's staff: Request Handler. Essentially, this role will be something of a hybrid between Developer and Dungeonmaster. Any Developer or Tester in good standing with the team can apply and upon approval, will be able to help with any DMIG from approved requests. The specific breakdown of increased responsibilities:

What this role would do:
Comment on approved requests with fulfillment status
Gain access to the main server DM Client to dole out approved requests
Remove DCs for request payments

What this role would not do:
Approve/comment on unapproved requests
Run events/monitor RP
Grant DCs

We hope this new role will help reduce the administrative tasks for DMs, give them more freedom to tell stories and run events, and give better access to players at more time zones.

Re: General Announcements

Hello! I am delivering some news from the staff today! After a long discussion and ideas being put forth from everyone on the staff, we've come up with an initiative that puts IC power into the hands of the players. We have very creatively called this the:

Player Power System

Every leadership position in every settlement will be transitioning to allow for PC leadership, when there are PCs interested in such a thing. There will be guidelines in place (such as allowing only one character per player to be within the top three rankings of all settlements), as well as tools we are currently in the process of writing to support leader PCs (and PC members of their governments) mechanically. We won't be mass-murdering every leader NPC, of course, but each one will have plots, events, or just IC tweaks to governmental setups in order to facilitate this.

This has been a long-time coming and a lot of DMs have been really putting a lot of time into brainstorming these plots and how to shift things in the primary settlements. Please bear with us as we continue to plan for this, as we realize that putting our time into planning has been a bit detrimental to active presence currently. But we're making a huge push with this to make the transition as smooth as possible, and opportunities for players as open as possible. It is our hope that this change will ease the burden of DMs trying to do and handle everything themselves (which clearly has not been working out well!) and it will also give players the agency they desire, to drive the story of Amia and not just stand around and wait for things to happen. Note: All governments will be eligible for player leadership, but not all of them will be immediately filled, of course. Settlements will shift as player interest appears in them.

Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements as we finalize the guidelines and the minimum tools necessary to make this work. Also, here's a thread in General Discussion so you can partake in conversation about it.

Current PCs with standing in settlement governments, expect to hear from the DMs regarding this in the upcoming weeks, too, as existing RP will 100% be taken into account.

-------------------------------

Here's a list of all governments that we have categorized for this shift (as of now), as well as the descriptions of the Large/Moderate/Small categories:

Categories
  • Large: These settlements oversee large areas and have two leadership structures built into them. The upper level covers the Kingdom/Region in its entirety. These all currently have prominent NPC leaders, but the DM Team will be gradually transitioning these locations to a PC-run setup in a way that makes sense IC. These upper level leadership structures will more immediately gain a PC "second-in-command" and a PC/NPC Council to help manage everything. Underneath this level will be a lower-level leadership structure, such as a separate Council/Ruler for each separate settlement in a Kingdom. This is an initial setup and players involved can change it as they see fit as we move forward with this player-supporting endeavor.
  • Moderate: With a moderate amount of lands to oversee, running these areas will be easier with a group and some DM help via NPCs, but structures can be determined by the players involved. Some have NPC leaders just because they are already heavily established. This will change with time and/or RP, as these roles are fully open to players, should the players in that area want it. It isn't mandatory. For example, the characters may be perfectly happy with Blue Lute as the leader of Blue Lagoon and they'll do nothing to take over these areas. These things will be fully decided by the players involved in the settlements, as this is a fully player-supporting initiative.
  • Small: Headed by a single PC leader. The settlement's claimed lands are minimal. May have an NPC currently, but PC would be eligible for the position following appropriate RP/plots.

Hi!

If you have existing Skinchangers and the scale of your character is not the default 1.0 (so you have had your character's scale changed to something else by a DM or the Size-Changer NPC in Cahracter Maintenance in-game), please flag a DM or Request Handler to fix your Skinchangers! It's just a matter of setting the scale variable, so it's quick and super easy. This is necessary due to skinchangers now saving Scale settings and the default is 1.0. So just let us know and we'll pop in and fix any you have!

We had an issue with the forums that required me to do a full restoration to our latest nightly backup from about 18 hours ago. I apologize for the inconvenience, as that means posts made today need to be re-posted, but it was necessary in order to prevent wider harm to the community. Please re-post anything that's missing! We'll gladly help if we can!

The Team has decided that we will streamline requests going forward. We are removing the difficulty tag feature (Where we'd tag [E], [M], or [C]) and all requests from now on will need two DMs to approve the request, regardless of the subject. This will hopefully make simpler requests move faster and minimize the wait that players have had. More complicated requests will still come with the same extra scrutiny, and less "I don't really know, but I agree with x DM who already said yes." Which is a bit odd just in general and makes it seem unnecessary.

We have came to a decision that the current construction rules for furniture are silly and headache making (and limiting devs in creativity)

So as of now, besides the normal construction costs ( found here viewtopic.php?p=1248#p1248)

Any interior (or heavy furniture exterior) will now per tile cost (as default):
1 unit of (any) Wood planks
1 unit of (any) Stone
1 unit of (any) Metal ingot
1 unit of (any) Textile (Wool/Cotton/Silk/Fur, etc.)

This should make it all easier for every one!

Wood/Stone/Metal numbers can be added together if you don't want to use one of them in the furnishings (you may not want any stone PLCs, for example). They can also be whatever types of those materials you want to use. This means you can also submit 3 Wood + 1 Silk.

You can also mix the material types is you like. You don't need to only use one type of wood for the full project, for example.

Custom Player Housing

Post by Jes »

Custom Player Housing
New feature available for all players! Full details provided below in an effort to answer all questions, but feel free to ask any further questions you may have or if anything is confusing.

Details
  • Each character may purchase one custom home IC. These purchases must be arranged through RP with a DM or with an appropriate settlement leader PC. This can be done with direct RP in-game or through correspondence on the forums via PMs. The maximum is one (1) per character to limit the monopolization of dev time, but you may purchase a home on more than one character.
  • Homes will have varying gold costs depending on size category of the home. For example, a large estate will cost more than a small house. Prices are outlined below.
  • Following the initial IC gold investment, each month will incur a DC cost for upkeep of the purchased building and the land upon which it sits. IC, this will be considered a cost which matches the gold you would receive for burning the associated number of coins. This will also be variable depending on the size category of the building, as outlined below. The DC cost represents both RP investment and activity in the game world. Note: Players can agree to share the monthly upkeep cost for the purposes of joint home ownership.
  • DC payments will be taken at the first of each RL month, after a full 28 days has passed following the initial gold investment. So if you purchase a home on the 20th day of August, DC payments will begin on October 1st. If you purchase on August 3rd, DC payments will start on September 1st. This ensures that the initial investment covers at least a full month (4 weeks) of ownership.
  • "Homes" do not have to be only living spaces. You can use your designated number of tiles for anything you want within the same tileset. For example, you can have the entrance lead to your character's store, and then have a smaller living space attached. Or you can have a full-blown theater or something without any need for living space. It's up to you, provided everything else checks out.
  • Characters can "move" to another home IC if they want to change size category or location. Interiors will need to be adjusted or changed, depending on what you want. Existing home sizes can also be increased or decreased if it makes sense for the location. For example, if you have a detached Medium house sitting out in the middle of nowhere, but want to change to a Large home, this is doable as long as the physical exterior is capable of being changed to correspond if applicable. The difference in the investment cost will apply. (For example, if you paid for a Medium home and want to upgrade to Large, then you will only pay the cost of a Large home, minus the cost of a Medium home.)
  • Characters who are inactive for three (3) months or who are unable to pay their DC upkeep cost will have their homes seized due to abandonment/dilapidation; either by a local government or by an opportunistic NPC, depending on location. These homes may be repurchased later for the initial gold investment amount for the home's size category only if another character hasn't moved in. This encourages home owners to remain active. (Items in storage chests of abandoned homes will be moved to a DM area location so that gold/items are not lost. These will be returned to the player whenever the player wishes after their return.)
  • Any of the listed tilesets below can be chosen, but any drastic tileset options need to make sense. For example, a home purchased in Southport shouldn't lead to an Abyss tileset, unless you specifically hire a mage (or are one capable) to turn the door into a portal leading there.
  • Changes to your home can be made over time, but this will be limited to once every 28 days for minor changes (adding/removing a few PLCs/NPCs, changing items in shops or cabinets, etc.) and once every 90 days for major changes (tileset additions, room configurations, complete overhauls, etc.).
  • Requests for player housing should be made here. If the building/home needs to be built, you must request that as a normal module change request first.
  • Staff Note: This is an interim system until the mechanical system is implemented. All efforts will be made to maintain the level of freedom and customization described herein when we transition to the mechanical system.

Addendum for Settlement LeadershipSettlement leadership PCs will have the ability to make use of up to 10 tiles of living space without paying the monthly DC upkeep cost. There are a few caveats:
  1. Anything that needs to be built still needs a module change request with resource requirements. Pre-existing rooms or structures can be used without construction if they do not exceed the 10-tile limit.
  2. The free living space will be keyed to the settlement faction/group, so it will not be fully private but open to settlement personnel who have settlement keys.
  3. Once you leave the leadership position, the next PC to take that position will become the "owner" of that area and can change it however they please.
  4. Personal storage chests will not be included in the free space, but any other features of the Housing system can be implemented normally.
  5. If more than one PC in a leadership position wants to "share" a free living space, the allowed area size will not multiply.
  6. This applies to any PC in a Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary position within a settlement.

Specifications
  • Homes can be buildings that already exist on the map or you can have your own custom building placed somewhere you like, where allowed/sensible. These will be considered module change requests prior to becoming a housing request. Homes that are custom built in this way will have an additional initial resource/RP/time requirement per our existing module change request guidelines.
  • Homes will have the Free Rest flag, allowing you to rest without a rest timer while in your home. Exceptions may be made by DMs if you don't choose a standard home tileset (like the aforementioned Abyss tileset).
  • If desired, owners will be able to have a recall point for an Enhanced Recall Stone, which will teleport you to your home in whatever designated spot you choose when the area is made. (More information on the Enhanced Recall Stone here.)
  • You can have any number of NPCs in your home, within reason as determined by DMs (so don't ask for like 10 dragons or something, but you can have 10 cats if you like). These can be pets, family members, staff, or guards. NPCs will be allowed to be a maximum of level 20 for guards. Any pets, regular staff, or children will be level 1. You must also provide appropriate RP for the acquisition of NPCs, where applicable. For example, guard NPCs need to be hired.
  • There is no limit to the number of PLCs you can have in your home. The cost for these PLCs is included in the initial investment. (Within reason, of course. You probably don't want it to be ridiculously laggy.)
  • Each home will have one storage chest for personal items and gold.
  • Each home will have a key and spawner for additional keys, if desired. Your home doesn't need to be locked to the public, but it can be. Or you can lock only parts of the home's interior, if desired.
  • Each home can have one (1) cabinet each for food, drinks, and clothing that will spawn once per reset (Or you can combine them into one cabinet if you want). You can have up to 10 food items, 10 drink items, and 5 clothing items. Food and drink will only be allowed the taste unique power and clothing will not be given any mechanical powers, but could be mythalled.
  • Homes that are occupied by players will have an appropriate marker outside their home as well as a Map Note so that other players (and DMs) will be aware that there is a player home there and is not just a random static building. And also so they don't do RP to purchase a property owned by someone already.
  • Only the following scripts will be allowed:
    • One (1) shop with up to 10 items approved by the DMs in your request. This is intended for merchants/crafters who wish to add some flair to their characters' RP with those professions and will not include mechanically strong items like regular/epic equipment. Items purchased from these shops will be marked Stolen.
    • Sitting spots, of course.
    • Secret doors/transitions to other parts of the home.
    • Library books (like in Southport East Library).
    • Deity System idols.
    • Up to two (2) Job System crafting stations.
    • Trash Barrels.
    • PC Merchant Stalls.
    • NPC Emotes: Sitting, dancing, lying down.
    • Up to two (2) portals to other locations, if created through RP by appropriate sources.
    • Hallow/Unhallow triggers, provided the appropriate RP is done.
    • VFX creation. This will allow VFXs to spawn/trigger after certain actions, like walking over a trigger or clicking a PLC.
    • Quests. DMs will help determine appropriate gold/xp rewards if applicable.
    • Recall pylons.
    • Food/drink dispensers. These have an associated gold cost and will work like the Baguette dispenser in the Cystana restaurant or the booze dispensers in some bars.
    • Text triggers. This will create pop-up text when someone walks over them. Good for setting the mood or adding some descriptive insight to how your home looks outside of PLC/tileset restrictions.
If you have ideas for additional scripts that could be included, feel free to pitch the idea either in your request or to the Staff separately so we can determine if we want to add to the above list. Note: Any scripts added in this way will be available to all players.
  • Homes can be requested in this subforum after the purchase RP is complete. A form will populate which will have all the information we need to get started on it. You can also fill out the form, then copy/paste it in a PM to the DM group.
  • Homes will be built by a staff Developer, working closely with the player in question to ensure that all specifications are met. Contact preference will be given to Discord for ease, but PMs will be possible for players who don't have/want Discord contact. Note that non-Discord contact will likely slow the process down significantly.
  • Specific Developers will be available for building character homes. You may request a Developer preference if you like their building style. We will try to honor this request, depending on their Dev workload and availability at the time (and thus they may decline additional projects at their discretion and you may have to wait a bit for their workload to ease or accept another Dev doing it). These Developers are as follows:
    • Jes
    • Mahtan
    • Frozen-ass

    Sizes/Costs

Each home has an initial gold investment, followed by a monthly DC upkeep cost which is representative of a gold cost the character is paying local authorities/taxes/maintenance/staff wages/etc. If a player wants a home for more than one character, the DC cost will apply to each home, thus raising the monthly DC cost. Please bear this in mind before requesting homes for multiple characters.

Sizes listed refer to the total number of used tiles on a map. As such, you are not limited to only square maps or layouts. Ex: A Medium Home has 25 total tiles, so you can use a 10x3 map (which has 30 tiles) and only use 25 of the available tiles.

    Large Home
    • 8x8 Tiles
    • Initial Cost: 1,000,000 gp
    • Monthly DC Upkeep: 20 DCs (represents 900,000 gp)
    Medium Home
    • 5x5 Tiles
    • Initial Cost: 500,000 gp
    • Monthly DC Upkeep: 10 DCs (represents 450,000 gp)
    Small Home
    • 2x2 Tiles
    • Initial Cost: 250,000 gp
    • Monthly DC Upkeep: 5 DCs (represents 225,000 gp)

    Tileset Options

The following is a list of tilesets available for you to use. Those in blue are not standard interior tilesets and will need a good IC reason/RP for why a home would go into those, or how you come to claim a piece of a forest, for example. Note: Some of the exterior tileset options we have are excluded because they just don't make sense outside of town/village use, but we still wanted people to be able to make cave homes, evil lairs, magical sanctums, or even a secret little haven in a forest.

Enhanced Recall Stone

Post by Jes »

Enhanced Recall Stone

An Enhanced Recall Stone is similar to the basic recall stone, except that it can be modified with mythals. These Enhanced Recall Stones can be used in conjunction with any number of other recall stones, but still only hold one location. Thus, you are limited only by the number of them you want to carry around.

You can get an Enhanced Recall Stone from certain NPCs within the game world in exchange for a flawless mythal. You also get one for free if you purchase a home through the Housing System. Each Enhanced Recall Stone has 10 charges and can be recharged or upgraded with different kinds of mythals, as shown below:
  • Minor Mythal = Adds 1 use
  • Lesser Mythal = Adds 2 uses
  • Intermediate Mythal = Adds 3 uses
  • Greater Mythal = Adds 5 uses
  • Flawless Mythal = Upgrades to & Adds up to 15 uses
  • Perfect Mythal = Upgrades to & Adds up to 20 uses
  • Divine Mythal = Upgrades to unlimited uses
Unlike the basic Recall Stone, you set the desired Recall point for the Enhanced Recall Stone by using the stone on the Recall Pylon/Binding of your choice. These will mostly be found in settlements, but there will be more scattered throughout the game world as PCs and NPCs alike create new ones.

This does not affect the standard Recall Stone which you gain through a starting quest. Those will also remain Unlimited-Use so you always have a Recall point.

(Note: This is pending the next module update.)

Settlement Leadership

Post by Jes »

Settlement Leadership Update

See the full update to the Settlement Leadership Policy here.
See the new Settlement Index here.

Primary points that are updated:
  1. Categories changed to Nation, Region, State, and Town. This is just for our categorization purposes to be more transparent with how the rules apply to each different type of settlement.
  2. Nation leaders at the top level are the only ones who fall into Primary/Secondary/Tertiary leadership roles. Secondary leaders beneath them do not, because those "primary" leaders always had the nation leaders above them anyway.
  3. Due to the size of the playerbase vs. the number of settlements, the Staff decided that players are allowed to have two characters who participate in the Player Leadership System, but only one may be in a Primary role. You still can't have more than one character in the structure of the same settlement regardless of category. We hope that this will allow for more RP in smaller or lesser-used areas.

More than 3 years have passed and we are happy to say we managed to bring over many charas. We have managed to tackle and rebuild hundreds. We know a few charas are still unrebuilt, either due to build uncertainties or because people simply did not feel like even playing them yet.

As playing unrebuilt charas in the game causes mechanical probems and are pretty broken in many cases, we decided that after this month (November 1st), we will put a blocker on the entry statue for pre EE charas to enter the game. Now worry not, people then can still get those characters rebuilt any time, you simply cannot play in game/get past the entry room (with those characters) until it is done. So if you already know you want to play an unrebuilt character and you have put it off, you have a month to come up with a nice new build and/or ask for building advice on discord. If you are uncertain you even want to play a chara, you can leave it unrebuilt in the vault, just keep in mind that if you in the end decide you want to play it, you will need a rebuild before you can leave the entry room (which is still free and still can be done any time)

Please keep in mind, even if you spot a building error or want some tweaks later this is not the end of the world. Building mistakes can be fixed later on easily with a small rebuild request. So you don't need to worry overly much about needing the "perfect build".

A new item is available for request!

Custom Summons are summoned creatures that are fully customized aesthetically, including appearance, name, bio, portrait, soundset, scale, and up to three VFX. If your summon is a humanoid-looking creature that can wear clothes, it can have a custom outfit appearance, but it cannot have a custom weapon. If it uses a visible weapon, you can change the appearance of that weapon type.

There are 8 bases you can choose from: Animal, Celestial, Construct, Demon, Devil, Elemental, Undead, or Vermin.

These summons are about the same strength as a Summon Creature IX spell and will stay out until they die. You cannot use these summons with any other summons, as normal. The custom summon will be the one to unsummon if you try to use it when you have another summon out (so your EDK/EMD isn't accidentally eaten).

These are limited. You can only request up to three per character, and all three will be stored on the same widget.

Cost: 22 DCs
