The Makings of a Con-Artist

Post by Elyon »

On a fine day at Frontier's Rest, the song of a soprano can be heard coming from the northern outskirts. The melody consists of trills and soft legato vowels rather than audible words, the use of operatic melisma was evident. Several guards and on-lookers found themselves asleep whilst the common folk was drawn to this voice. Captivated in a trance-like state, some were rumoured to have ended up at the frontier asleep, pockets emptied and jewellery had gone missing. The melody of a male black bard using an olamn, a type of lute containing seven strings, had slowly transitioned and drowned out the soprano's voice. This freed the victims of any compulsion.

The word 'Lady Burgandy' reemerges once more. This con-artist was known to have held performances of tale and song before inducing audience members into a lull. She was also known for luring adventurers to dangerous places with promises of treasures, before plucking their belongings after their untimely death...

Many guards at Frontier Rest had awoken after the black bard's countersong. They were on high alert for this con-artist who had apparently been reported three months ago and was absent only until now.

Trouble at Moonpier. Another melody fills the air once more from the soprano's voice. This time an energetic vibrato echoed across the coastal town. The commonfolk and some of the militia found themselves exerting their energy on the spot, wiggling their arms and swaying their hips in ways they couldn't imagine! A look of pain and even tears fell from their cheeks. Pockets were emptied once more! As a melody consisting of windpipes was played, they found some relief. A certain female Moonknight was seen offering gold to the victims, who mentioned that a kind elf offered to compensate for their losses and traumatic experience.

Some brave souls ventured north to follow the sound of music, later returning back to Moonpier, pondering their next move. Whatever had transpired kept tensions high in the dock town. Another place where the people are on the lookout for this 'Lady Burgandy'.

A certain bard, dressed in black can be seen walking around the Triumvir with a troubled expression on his face. Later he appears to be coming and going very frequently through the lamp. It would seem that he frequents the settlements that are directly reachable by the gnome device.
