Old people grousing or the welcome back and go away thread

Post by Opustus »

Fiiiiifteeeen long years ago I came to this place. I was still young and spry and could do all sorts of youthful acrobatics.

Now I am old, 26 long osteoporotic years old, a brittle-boned bitch. Used to all the creature comforts of modern life, I send texts to my friends, push green buttons knowing it means good things, and keep my door locked from outsiders and the few friends I have through the intercom. I try logging into Amia, thinking my life can continue undisturbed thanks to the leaps in technology.

BUT LIFE AIN'T SWEET. I try logging in, and I'm told to MANUALLY install hak files. There's a perfectly fine autoloader on the EE digitalised technology, so sweetly allowing me to be lazy, but you BASTARDS are making me DO STUFF I don't wwwwaaanna.

I hate you all. I will rate this service very poorly in my newsletter's review. Shame on you.

Stepping back into the ring of Amia after... Ra bless, years being away? I had my own reasons for stepping away from Old-mia but seeing that Amia transitioned to NWN:EE I figured I'd give it another shot. Logged in yesterday to run around for a bit and boy is there a lot I missed out on.

Anyway greetings and salutations, I hope to meet (and reconnect with) everyone soon!

I'll be lurking around a bit again.
Probably most known for Dill Buck-tooth, Olo Cotton and Edward Cutts with a few other characters here and there.

I've picked up a dwarf this time around, but will be brining back Dill for sure, and others to play around with as required!

Hello lads. I used to play a long time ago. I have now returned. I'm happy to see the old server still popping. You might see me online as Spooks a bit, my old kobold mage, but I'm also waiting to see if I can get the original character from 1.69 restored as well. See you folks out there!

I will put up a fair warning myself, that I probably have to reduce times significantly or take a break, just after returning from my "vacation". But university just did a sneak attack on me along with some other worries which really tears on my nerves. 2020 eh? F'ing piece of crap pancake year.

I may be a little more sporadic the next few weeks due to a couple reasons.
To those who don't know yet, I got an eye thing going on, and been to the doctor's and am getting it all sorted. This led to 1) An eyepatch to not strain the eye I can't quite see out of anymore, which makes the OTHER eye strain more when looking at blue screens, especially when reading, so I gotta kinda give it more breaks than usual, and 2) A round of steroid medications that can make me pretty sick sometimes. Recovery time is estimated between 2-6 weeks, so a big window there, but fingers crossed it's on the sooner end!
I'll still be around of course, just perhaps a bit slower with reading/typing, and needing to take more breaks away from my computer, but I can always be reached on Discord! <3

Amia,

I've played here for eight years and in that time span, I've only managed to have consistent dm activity with the factions I've run for it twice. Those times were Kobra/Nihilus/Galenson/Manarethan during the Arcanum plot - allowing my faction to function successfully despite my actual faction DM basically being non-existent - and recently with Jes/Zoltan. I've come to realize lately that amia can slow down a lot when the DMs need their time off. Measures are being taken in the right direction to address this by giving players things they can do that don't involve the DMs and I think that's awesome.

But the whole situation did lead to the sort of situation where a faction gets large while the DMs are excited, active, and full of energy and promptly fell out when the same DMs stretched themselves way too thin trying to handle a large player base with limited resources and personnel. Naturally, this left me in an awkward position where I play a prominent evil character who has very little roleplay to gravitate toward because the circle of people he created around himself evaporated - and he's done a lot to alienate himself from everywhere else. Some or most of you might be familiar with my recent threads on improving amia with regards to notices, and even the pvp rule. I just want to say plainly that everything I suggested was entirely in good faith because I saw a culture issue of toxic conflict that only served to demoralize people OOC and diminish their enjoyment of the server offscreen with a one-sided conflict rather than something with two participants. It grew to be incredibly demoralizing and incredibly depressing.

I invested a lot of time and personal energy into my presence on here and really wanted to try and make something of it, and enjoy myself while doing so but then things started to really get to me. It's embarrassing but amia was starting to affect my life outside of the game. I started getting so depressed I could honestly barely function in real life. I wasn't really sleeping, eating, or showering. I was just logging in to not enjoy myself consistently because I felt that on a whole the community didn't want me around while having to remind myself that that was probably just my depression brain talking. But whenever I made suggestions to try and help with the issues I got responses that made me feel like I was a bad person for suggesting them and I got worse.

I stopped doing anything. I didn't' get out of bed. Didn't get in-game. Didn't do anything. There was an incident where I ended up logging into the game to try and find rp and someone off-handedly suggested that they not bring me to some RP DM thing. I was feeling particularly lonely and vulnerable and I ended up having some sort of emotional breakdown and literally cried myself to sleep.

I really have not been okay. I can't really do this anymore, at least for now. It becomes totally exhausting just trying to feel like I can exist and occupy the same space as the rest of you when I play something that will naturally be excluded from the majority of what goes on here. So I'm taking a break. I'm uncertain when or if I'll come back more permanently but I'll try to be around for events for people who do things that they would enjoy having me around for.

This is not okay that anyone would ever say that. I get that people don't like each other sometimes. But it's NEVER okay to tell someone - that's trying to have fun the same as you - that you don't want them there. That person should honestly be fucking ashamed.

They honestly said it in passing, as a comment about not bringing extra people because there's more loot that way. They didn't even really mean anything by it. We ended up talking at length later.

Hey homie, I know most of my toons over the years have always been against tarkuul, but you always played true to your character, you never sold out, you stuck to your guns, and that's a very notable thing. Many people would start an evil character and stop playing evil cuz, well, evil gets shunned alot. But you where always the stone that wouldn't budge. I hate to see you go, you've always been an amazing antagonist on amia, but I truly do feel you need to look after yourself before you look after Gerald.

Get better dude, get some rest, get some grub, and get some away time.

I'm slowly being able to make my way back to play again. This last year, like for many, was absolute crap aside from the birth of mine and Skyfalling's second daughter (after 3 miscarriages over 8 years, I finally carried to full term!). We named her Aurora Lorelai.

But along with that came recovering from another C-section where I lost too much blood and nearly died three times during the surgery. Then I had to have my gallbladder removed. After that, I turned yellow with jaundice and it was found that there was a bile duct blockage. I have 6 new scars! 5 of them make me look like I was shanked in the belly. Skyfalling was struck by lightning (again). He's okay, though! His heart stopped for a little bit and he's still trying to get feeling back in all of his left hand fingers, but he's doing better now.

After all of that, we ended up contracting Covid-19. In my personal experience, having a fever of 104-105F for a week and a half really messed me up, so my mind is a little foggy on...more things than one. I'm here and there but I'm having to write down a lot of things to help myself stop forgetting so quickly. Skyfalling and I are just now, three months later, starting to get our ability to breathe correctly, instead of having almost asthmatic-like attacks after walking 15 feet. So, yeah...I need a break from life. Our youngest daughter is in the 10 month old stage of, "LOOK AT THIS, LOOK WHAT I CAN DO, I'M NEVER GOING TO SLEEP EVER AGAIN" (...our first child thought sleep regression was so beyond her. This is entirely new to us) so it might take a bit for me to actually be able to play.

Im on a slow burning return to Amia. For those few who care that is. I need to keep my time spent far from the usual numbers, I did clock in about 200 hours in 1,5 month last autumn before my "vacation" of 2 weeks. I have a degree to handle and a thesis to write. But I will be around should someone need me for something, which is probably a very low chance of me being needed ic on any current character, but if.

TL:DR, im back more or less.

I, spectacularly, burned out.

To no one's surprise, playing my lizard takes a huge amount of energy, and the three things that keep me going are not present at the moment, so I was starting to run on fumes. I might drop back eventually, when my interest is drawn in once more.
